The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress  (APC), has constituted a five-man investigative and reconciliation committee to curtail the brewing crisis in the party.

The committee was constituted following a series of complaints by the National Vice Chairman, North West, Dr. Salihu Lukman against the National Chairman, Senator Abdulahi Adamu and Secretary, Senator Iyiola Omisore.

Lukman, had in a statement Monday accused both Adamu and Omisore of turning other members of the NWC to a rubber stamp, saying the duo took all decisions bordering on managing the finances of the party without the knowledge of other NWC members.

He also alleged  that the Adamu-led administrative organ has continued to commit some fundamental infractions that led to the dissolution of the Adams Oshiomhole-led NWC in 2020.

These infractions, Lukman said, included the refusal to convene the National Executive Council (NEC), hold the National Caucus meetings, give quarterly financial reports to the NEC and inaugurate the National Advisory Council (NAC) of the party, as well as lack of accountability.

However, Lukman’s latest expose, expectedly created an uneasy calm within the party, hence, the decision of the national leadership of the party to set up the committee.

THISDAY checks revealed that some members of the NWC met to wade into the matter with a view to curtailing it before it degenerates further.

The decision to set up the committee was taken at the NWC meeting held at the party secretariat yesterday in Abuja.

The members of the committee were Deputy National Chairman (North), Abubakar Kyari, who will serve as the head of the Committee; Deputy National Chairman (South), Emma Eneukwu; National Vice Chairman, South East, Ijeomah Arodiogbu, and the National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka.

THISDAY reliably gathered that the five-man committee would be meeting with Adamu and Omisore.

A member of the NWC, who pleaded anonymity said the five-man committee met with Lukman for about 2 hours yesterday, where he further presented some of the infractions he accused the chairman and the secretary of.

The source further revealed that the committee was not given any time frame to carry out its assignment but was charged to thoroughly investigate and find an amicable solution to the crisis before it degenerates further.

The source added that he was aware that Lukman had tabled his minimum demands that things must be run in accordance with the Constitution of the party and that accountability must not be compromised again.

“We have set up a five-man committee to wade into the crisis, look into the allegations raised to essentially see how it can be mitigated. We are aware that allowing it to fester further, boil down to opening flanks at the end of the day, which if not plucked may put the party in jeopardy.

“That it even degenerated to this extent is a confirmation of the leadership failure of our party. No duration limit was given to the committee, but they were charged to thoroughly investigate and find an amicable solution to the crisis,” the source said.
