Katsina, UBEC Spend N30bn on Renovation of Primary Schools, Says Masari

The Katsina State Government in partnership with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) has expended the sum of N30 billion on renovation and rehabilitation of primary schools across the state.

The state Governor, Aminu Bello Masari, made the disclosure Thursday while in audience with former members of the state House of Assembly at the Government House.

He explained that the state government has renovated over 7,000 primary and secondary schools and employed 5,000 teachers across the 34 local government areas of the state.

According to him, “My administration in partnership with UBEC has spent over N30 billion on renovation, rehabilitation and provision of furniture to primary schools across Katsina State.

“We have renovated and rehabilitated over 7,000 primary and secondary schools. We employed over 5,000 teachers and promoted all the teachers that spent nine years without promotion.”

Masari said the enrolment of primary school pupils has risen from one million to over 2.2 million as of 2015 to date because of his administration’s revolving strategies in the education sector.

The governor added that the government has expended N15 billion on construction of drainages in Katsina metropolitan area to tackle flooding, adding that the administration was spending N4 billion yearly on the same project.

He reiterated that the government, in collaboration with the World Bank, had also spent over N50 billion in tackling flooding and gully erosion in Katsina, Jibia, Malumfashi and Funtua Local Government Areas of the state.
