The presidential candidate of Social Democratic Party (SDP), Prince Adewole Adebayo weekend observed that All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were responsible for Nigeria’s problems.
Adebayo, Founder of KAFTAN TV, therefore, challenged Nigerians to get rid of the two dominant political parties if the country wanted to progress and compete among comity of nations.
He made these remarks at a session with journalists weekend, promising to fight corruption, develop strategic infrastructure and ensure security if elected in the 2023 presidential election.
Adebayo had polled 1,546 votes to emerge the flag bearer of the SDP at the just concluded special national convention held at the International Conference Centre, Abuja. He defeated his closest rival, Mrs. Kadijah Okunnu-Lamidi who polled 83 votes during the national convention chaired by former Ekiti State Governor, Chief Segun Oni.At the session, Adebayo described the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari as dishonest with the people, noting that the resources “are stolen and wasted to the detriment of the down trodden.”Adebayo explained that the federal government “cannot secure the people. It cannot secure its health, and it cannot administer the resources of the country. People, who are supposed to ensure accountability, are actually thieves.
“The federal government, for instance, is accused the Accountant General of the Federation, Alhaji Ahmed Idris of stealing billions of Naira. The Central Bank of Nigeria under the leadership of Godwin Emefiele is playing poker with the public resources trying to run for office or the other.
“The federal government is not clean. It is unprepared. In terms of security, the federal government cannot secure its citizenry. Religious houses cannot be secured. So, nothing works,” the flag bearer of the SDP lamented.
Adebayo said the federal government’s balance sheet “is laced with fraud, which is why 80 per cent of the country’s crude is stolen and nobody gives account. The balance sheet is full of wrong entries. Most resources are stolen.
“Right now, you will see that the crude oil price is rising. Russia, a country that is at war and besieged by many enemies, has its currency rising, ours is going down. People, who are running election, have more access to dollars than industries.
“If you look at the books, they are keeping are false and out-dated books. If you look at the medium term expenditure framework that they write, you will think Nigeria has a population of 20 million. We are still in 1964.”
If elected the president of Nigeria, the SDP president promised not to keep bad books; neither would he steal from the coffers of the federal government, as it is the norm presently.
He said: “I am not going to keep bad books like they are keeping. I am not going to steal the money. What I will do differently is to make sure that people in my government are not profiting and benefiting from insecurity.”
He also promised “to deal with all elements of the Islamic State’s West Africa Province (ISWAP), Boko Haram or whatever name they called it. In terms of intelligence gathering or security governance, they have politicized the office of the National Security Adviser (NSA).
“You cannot have proper intelligence. Much of the intelligence is used for regime survival. We will do our things differently to see that offices are not used for politics. We will use public office to build strategic infrastructure if elected.”
