The Katsina State Police Command has busted a syndicate of suspected human traffickers in Baraji Quarters of Daura Local Government Area of the state and rescued 15 victims.

The Command’s spokesman, SP Gambo Isah, told journalists at a press briefing yesterday that the rescued victims were eight females and seven males.

He explained that nemesis caught up with the human traffickers when they were accosted at the Baraji Quarters by a team of police operatives, conveying the victims bound for Niger Republic to Libya.

According to him, upon sighting the police, the driver of the unregistered Golf 111 vehicle abandoned the victims and “took to his heels and ran into the bush.”

The superintendent of police added that efforts were ongoing by police and other security agencies in the state with a view to apprehending the fleeing suspects.

He, however, said police operatives have also repelled terrorists’ attack on Gago Village in Dutsin-ma Local Government Area of the state and killed one of the terrorists.

He said the terrorists numbering about 40, armed with AK-47 rifles, invaded the village and rustled 50 cows belonging to one Alhaji Ibrahim Maikudi.

The operational strategy and gallantry displayed by the police team, he said, forced the terrorists to abandon their heinous mission and fled the scene.

He said, “In the course of scanning the scene, one AK-47 rifle with five rounds of 7.62mm ammunition and all the rustled cows were recovered.”

While noting that many terrorists escaped during the fierce gun duel with severe gun shots, Isah admonished members of the community to report to the nearest security formation any person found with suspicious injury.
