Train Crushes Dangote Truck, Tricycle in Kano

An accident had Occurred in Kano in which a train crushed a Dangote Cement Plc trailer and commercial tricycle.

The incident occurred on Obasanjo Road in the Kano metropolis at 11:30am yesterday.

Eyewitnesses, who run businesses near the rail-track, said they saw the trailer coming towards the rail line as the train was speeding.

He said they attempted to flag down the trailer but the driver didn’t notice.

One of the witnesses said:” When the driver of the trailer tried to cross the rail line, the train hit the vehicle and the tricycle at the same time,”

It is unclear if anyone was killed in the accident but people were rushed to the Murtala Muhammad Hospital, Kano, from the scene of the accident.

Spokesman for the state fire service, Mr. Saminu Yusuf Abdullahi confirmed the incident.

“Today being Sunday 23rd January 2022, our formation received a call at about 11:58am from Musa Bello, reporting a road accident at Obasanjo Road near Jifatu store”.

“We turned out our men to the scene of the incident and they arrived and found that a passenger rail train from Lagos to Kano hit a trailer bearing Dangote company carrying Dangote cement with unknown registration number and a Tricycle with Kano state government Karota number 2153 TRN. Our rescue team successfully rescued six people, four people from the Tricycle and two from the side of a mosque close to the Jifatu store ,” he said.

According to him, victims affected Abdulwahabu Jibrin of about 32 years old, who is the Tricycle driver; Zainab Yakubu of about 48 years old Tricycle passenger, Khadija Yakubu of about 15 years old passenger and Hafsat Nafi’u of about eight years old passenger.

Saminu explained that other passengers were Lawan Bala of about 40 years old and Jibawa Maikudi of about 32 years old from the side of the mosque.

All victims rescued alive and conveyed to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital for medical treatment.
