The Chief Executive Officer of Zeetin Engineering, Azibaola Robert, has called on Nigerian engineers to give more attention to the development of mechanical engineering, saying it is time for Nigeria as a nation to start the production of machines that produce other machines.

Speaking last Tuesday in Abuja after receiving an honourary award from the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Azibaola, a lawyer turn innovator and cousin to the former President Jonathan Goodluck, maintained that his commitment was to ensure that Nigerians are technically able to meet the developmental needs of the country.

He said that he believes that the bedrock of the development of any nation was in the mechanical engineering section, adding that his goal was to ensure that the little resources that God has given to him will be invested in mechanical engineering while doing civil engineering as well.

He thanked the society for honouring him, maintaining that the award will push him to do more.

According to him, “I’m thinking that the bedrock of development of any nation is in the mechanical engineering section and my goal is to ensure that the little resources that God has given to me will be invested in mechanical engineering while doing civil engineering as well.

“I feel sad as a person because 60 years after independence, Nigera is unable to produce a single engine which we can call made-in-Nigeria, whereas we are 260 million people in this country as the biggest black nation in the world.

“Our taste for luxurious products abroad should be checked. The government should not conclude that Nigerian engineers are not efficient enough just because they were tried once. They should keep on trying.

“I think that if Nigeria can put theirs acts together, the social injustice that is happening to black people will be greatly reduced. Let us work together as a nation.”

To the NSE, he said: “Thank you for honouring me. Now I can say that I’m a practical member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers. I thank the society for giving me this opportunity.”
