Aside being in the country attending to some personal projects at the moment and having hugely participated at the just concluded Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF) as one of the resource persons that facilitated the Masterclass sessions of the AFRIFF 10th edition, prolific filmmaker Obi Emelonye has commenced filming for “Hunt”, his first film project of 2021. Behind the scene footages show the upcoming feature film featuring maverick Charley Boy, Jidekene Achufusi, Josh2funny and a host of others.

Principal photography recently kicked off for the film produced by Joy Odiete for Blue Pictures Entertainment and executive produced by Odinaka Emmanuel Offia. Written by Emelonye, ‘Hunt’ follows Josiah (Josh2funny) and Joseph (Jidekene Achufusi), two down-on-their-luck friends who share a room in a run-down part of Gwagwalada, Abuja. When Josiah’s wife, Lucy (Oma Iyasara) arrives without notice and with their three daughters, Joseph has to find somewhere to sleep. He checks into a local hotel.

But, a mix-up lands him in a room belonging to Diokpa (Charley Boy), a local criminal Lord. What Joseph finds in Diokpa’s room changes his life and that of his friend Josiah, thus sparking a game of cat and mouse with Diokpa tracing the two Joes all the way to Lagos where they have become the biggest boys in town! ‘Living In Bondage: Breaking Free’ star Jidekene first teased fans with photos of himself and co-star Josh2funny shared on Instagram.

“Hunt”, which is scheduled for release in March, 2022, is Obi Emelonye’s first film since his award-winning 2020 cybercrime thriller ‘Black Mail’ with OC Ukeje in the lead role. It won the Best Film by an African Living Abroad at the recent AMAA Awards 2021. “Black Mail” is nominated as Best Feature film at the 2021 British Urban Film Festival. The movie is expected to open the BUFF2021 on Saturday the 4th of December.
