Rotary Club of Lekki-Novare Inaugurates Obinna Azonobi as Charter Changemaker President

The Rotary club of Lekki-Novare, on Saturday, 23rd, October, 2021 inaugurated Obinna Azonobi as its first charter Changemaker president.

Piqued by the state of poor communities in the Lekki – Ibeju Lekki area of Lagos State, the humanitarian organisation initiated a fundraising session to raise N50 million to support several humanitarian projects through this year and 2022.

Speaking during the investiture ceremony, the newly inaugurated president of the club charged members to continue their good works and engage in activities that would assist humanity.

He said: “Our motto for the year 2021/2022 is ‘Service above Self:’ In line with this, the Rotary club of Lekki-Novare has come up with an amazing and innovative project list for this year totalling N50 million.

“I will remind you of this famous quote by John F. Kennedy ‘Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.’ This is the underlying reason I do what I’m doing today.

“I will also use this opportunity to invite non-Rotarians here to be part of this great movement called Rotary. You are free to be part of us or look for a club closest to you. Rotary is fun, engaging, transformational and impactful in all rectifications.”

Speaking after the inauguration of the new members and board of directors, the club’s new Development Chairman, Uche Jinwa, revealed that the organisation will be giving out education scholarships as part of its projects.

“These projects include giving scholarships to students, helping to solve maternal and child care challenges and alleviating poverty, especially for women,” she said.

“Although this is a new club, we have planted about 500 ecological trees and have given scholarships to students and we still have many more projects in the pipeline”

On her part, the Past President of Rotary Club of Amuwo, Mrs. Kosy Udechukwu further challenged the new members and the just instituted board to live above board, while urging the government to step up its game in terms of governance.

“There are a lot of things that are not functioning well in this country. We don’t have good social amenities, good medical care and there’s no peace. There’s so much insecurity, people are afraid. With the recent happenings in the east, people are afraid to travel. Government should step up their game in making sure that Nigeria becomes a home for all.” Udechukwu stated.

The Public Image Chairman of Lekki-Novare, ROTN Okey Okagbue, also urged the government to engage more with the citizens, especially at the grassroots level.

“The government needs to go into the grassroots communities through the local government chairman and identify how they can impact on their development.” Okagbue stated.

Obinna Azonobi is founder and Managing Director of Realtypros Investment Global Limited, a member and fellow of Advance Supply management Chain Management in London, UK and currently serving as the APC Abba Ward Leader and the LGA congress delegate for Abba community in Imo State.
