Former Governor of Kwara State, Mr. Abdulfatah Ahmed, yesterday said that he is still an active member of the opposition Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP).

Ahmed was named a member of the party’s National Convention Organising Committee last week.

The former governor clarifications came on the heels of his recent involvement in the formation of like-minded of eminent Nigerians under the platform of Rescue Nigeria Project (RNP) group that held a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday.

Other members of the group include, former governor of Cross River State, Mr. Donald Duke; Senator Lee Maeba, Usman Bugaje, Prof. Attahiru Jega, Amb. Nkoyo Toyo, Yomi Awoniyi, Dr. Rose Idi Danladi and Dr. Sadiq Gombe, among others.

Ahmed who delivered a key note address at the event lamented the state of the nation, noting that the high level of nepotism and lack of inclusiveness had given rise to the agitations by different ethnic groups.

He recalled that, in 2015, Nigerians embraced change but added that today “that change appears to be what we didn’t expect as insecurity has taken over the nation.”

However, in a statement issued in Ilorin and signed by Media Adviser to the former Governor, Dr. Muideen Femi Akorede, and made available to journalists stated that “the former governor remains a member of the PDP.”

The statement added that, his involvement in the RNP group didn’t affect his membership of the members of the PDP in the country.

The statement said: “He also belongs to political platforms such as the Abuja Round Table Group and the Rescue Nigeria Project, RNP, “a forum, composed of like-minded Nigerians drawn from all political persuasions, seeking to repurpose the conversation about Nigeria’s future and reframe the leadership selection process in Nigeria.”
