In a unanimous decision, the President of KeepFit International Club, Mr. Christopher Adiorah, and other members of the club yesterday dissolved the former Board of Trustees (BoT) setup by a few disgruntled members, and reconstitute a new BoT, stating that the former BoT didn’t have the backing of the club and didn’t follow due process.

He also noted that the club remains united despite the activities of some individuals, “who are causing nuisance to the growth and success of the club.”

Adiorah, who disclosed this yesterday in Surulere, Lagos, during an emergency meeting with members, said the issue of some KeepFit members trying to run another parallel BoT against the constituted BoT has been going on for three years.

He stated though there have been efforts to resolve the differences that existed to ensure that they remained united, some disgruntled members saw it as a sign of weakness, and decided to take their own decisions, and “they didn’t only take their own decisions, but also we went ahead to overthrow the elected executives.”

The president of the club hinted that Keepfit International is peaceful, and as a result, they are following due process to resolve the issues amicably, adding that the people involved have not been attending meetings or functions

Adiorah further explained that the self-acclaimed chairman of the dissolved BoT was sanctioned and expected to come before the executives to answer questions on some issues, but he declined the invitation

According to him, “When the self-acclaimed chairman of the dissolved BoT didn’t honour the invitation, it triggered the current problem we are having today at the club. For three years, the self-chairman and his loyalists have been constituting nuisance, they didn’t setup any executive, instead they were waiting for the right time to strike and they believe now is the right time to do so. But they don’t know that the club is strongly united.

“Since the election of the new executives into office, the self-acclaimed chairman has been making efforts to discredit the executives and damage the reputation of the club. We will follow due process; we will not join issue with anybody. We will comply with the constitution. We will continue to give them fair hearing. For instance, today, we suspended them from the platform and sent them to disciplinary committee for action. When the disciplinary committee is done with their recommendation, we will come to the house to rectify and reach an agreement. The club has built its integrity and social standing, so we are not interested in putting any effort to debunk what they are saying.”

In his remarks, the Financial Secretary of KeepFit International Club, Patrick Okoye, affirmed that the problem facing the club is that there are few people trying to create artificial crisis in order for them to achieve some perceived personal interests.

He also noted that 95 percent of the club members are united, adding that the few individuals who are attempting to disrupt the smooth running of things are interested in piloting the activities of the club for personal and economic gains.

“These individuals are interested in deciding who become the president and the executive members. They are interested in deciding who gets what and why. The problem is that these individuals are not active members of the club. We had three BoT members who unlawfully sat and made some publications that they have dissolved the current executive. We did our findings and discovered that there was no meeting of the BoT,” he said.
