FG Pledges to Complete Abuja-Kaduna -Kano Road by 2023

The federal government has pledged that it will deliver the hybrid Abuja-Kaduna-Kano highway on or before 2023 in line with its plan.

Federal Comptroller of Works, Mr. Yahaya Ali gave this assurance in Kano at the weekend, saying activities at various sections of the strategic road “are on smooth ride. The 2023 delivery date is feasible.

Ali explained that the Kano-Zaria section of the highways covering a stretch of 137km dual carriageway of expanded service lane being handled by Julius Berger had recorded 23 percent completion.

Ali added that the hybrid road project “includes upgrade and reconstruction of over 100 bridges and box culvert within the stretch of Kano- Zaria section of the highway.

He disclosed that the hybrid highway that runs from the federal capital territory through Kaduna state that terminated at the commercial city of Kano was among the list of 25 ongoing road projects in Kano and environs.

The federal Controller listed Kano – Katsina (phase 1) which terminated at Gidan Mutum Daya recorded 78 percent completion, while Kano-Shuwarin with a stretch of 202km, Kano-Maiduguri divided into five sections recorded 55 percent completion.

Similarly, Kano Gwarzo-Dayi unveiled recently by Kano State Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje with a stretch of 90 km “is ongoing as contractor has since mobilised men and equipment to site.”

The comptroller said: “We have completed joint enumeration and evaluation with the officials of the Kano State Government on Kano- Gwarzo – Day last week. The total figures earmarked for compensation would be ready soon.

“SUKUK funding has solved slow progress on construction sites, as four out of these major projects are on it. SUKUK has greatly eased major challenges to lack of assess to available fund to continue with our projects,” the comptroller said.
