CDS, Nigeria’s Flag Designer, Others Unveil World’s Largest Flag in Ibadan

The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Lucky Irabor; the designer of the Nigerian flag, Pa Taiwo Akinkunmi, members of his family, close friends and country music idol, Timi Dakolo yesterday unveiled the world’s largest flag at the Polo ground in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The flag covers an area of 3,275.6 square meters. It has a length of 75.3 meters and a width of 43.5 meters.

Prior to the unveiling, the Guinness world record for the largest flag to be flown was held by the United Arab Emirates and covered an area of 2,448.6 square meters.

Performing the unveiling was the designer of the Nigerian flag, Akinkunmi, accompanied by members of his family, close friends and country music idol, Timi Dakolo.

The octogenarian while welcoming guests to the event, expressed happiness that he is being honoured while alive, saying “I have always dreamt about Nigeria being at the fore front of every good thing.”

He also gave special recognition to the CDS, Irabor, for honouring him with his presence.

Irabor in his own remarks, said, “Let us always remember that the flag is not a mere symbol of Nigeria; it is a symbol of a united Nigeria. Let us work together for unity and love.”

It was learnt that the process to certify the achievement as the world’s largest flag to be hosted has begun and should be concluded before the flag is hoisted in Ibadan later this year.
