Oyetola, Umahi, Tinubu, First Bank, Access Bank, Others Honoured

The Governors of Osun and Ebonyi States, Mr. Adegboyega Oyetola and Mr. Dave Umahi emerged winners at the Champion Newspapers 2020 Award.

Oyetola won double award as Champion Newspapers Man of the Year and Governor of the Year while Umahi emerged as Champion Newspaper Man of the Year on Infrastructural Development.

In addition, the National Leaders of All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, won the Democracy Icon of the Fourth Republic; the Minister of Transportation, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, emerged the Most Outstanding Public Servant of the Year while the Chairman of the Innoson Group, Dr. Innocent Chukwuma, won the Innovative Manufacturer of the Decade.

Similarly, the Governor of Enugu State, Mr. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, was awarded the Most Outstanding Security Conscious and Peaceful Governor; Hon. Sir Dr. Jude Chukwuemeka Idimogu, member Lagos State House of Assembly emerged the Champion Newspaper’s Most Outstanding Lawmaker of the Year 2020 and the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, won the Grand Peacemaker of the Year.

On corporate award category, the Managing Director /CEO of First Bank PLC, Dr. Adesola Adetuntan, emerged the Banker of the Year 2020 while the Access Bank PLC was the Bank of the Year 2020.

Also, the African Alliance Insurance won the Life Insurance Company of the Decade (2010 -2020); the NLNG was the Outstanding Company of the Year 2020; the NSIA Insurance was the Most Innovative Insurance Company of the Year 2020 and Mr. Charles Aigbe emerged the Best Media Manager of the Year 2020.

For humanitarian service category, Sir and Lady Goodluck Obi Foundation won the award for the Heart of Gold and the Dangote Foundation emerged the Philanthropist of the Year 2020.

The Group Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief of Champion newspaper, Dr. Mrs. Nwadiuto Iheakanwa, described the award as the print industry’s modest way of contributing its quota to the overall development of the society by providing a veritable platform to recognise heavyweights and institutions that have excelled both in private and public sectors of the economy.

Iheakanwa said that the selected awardees have not only identified the needs and challenges of the citizens but proffered holistic solutions to them, thereby uplifting the standard of living of the people and contributing their best to the country’s socio-economic and political development.

She said that the recognition given to the awardees would serve as an inspiration and beacon of hope not only to Nigerians but humanity.

In his address, the Chairman of the Occasion and the Managing Director, National Inland Waterways Authority, Dr. George Moghalu, commended the Champion Newspapers on the credibility of the award and described as the honour bestowed on the awardees as well deserved.

Oyetola said while receiving the award, that his administration’s impact had being felt in various sectors of the state’s economy, especially in agriculture, tourism and mining.
