Army Confirms Attahiru’s Death, Says10 Officers, Crew Members Died in Air Crash

The Nigerian Army has confirmed the death of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Ibrahim Attahiru in an air crash in Kaduna.

It said 10 officers and crew members were also killed in the fatal crash.
A statement issued by Army Spokesman, Brigadier-General Mohammed Yerima, said the army chief was enroute Kaduna from Abuja when the tragic crash occured.

“The Nigerian Army regrets to announce the passing away of its Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Ibrahim Attahiru .

“The sad event occurred following an air crash in Kaduna which also claimed the lives of 10 other officers including the crew”, it said.

The Nigerian Army Headquarters said “the COAS was enroute Kaduna from Abuja on Friday, 21 May, 2021 when the unfortunate incident happened”.

The statement said “details of the sad incident and burial arrangements will be communicated soon”.

The the army did not however release thr names of other officers and crew members that died in the ill-fated plane.
