Gunmen Set Ablaze another Police Station in Abia

Abia State Police Command has confirmed that over 100 unidentified gunmen attacked and razed Bende Police Station in Bende Local Government Area of Abia State on Wednesday night.

The attack came barely few hours after the state governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu left Bende LGA headquarters after a civic reception of a three-time immediate past House of Representatives member who represented Bende federal constituency, Hon. Nnenna Ukeje.

The police station is situated few metres from the LGA field where the occasion the reception took place.

The attack followed the burning of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) office at Amaekpu by gunmen.

The spokesman of the Abia State Police Command, Ogbonna Geoffrey, who confirmed the attack, disclosed that two police operatives were shot on the leg.

According to him, the generator house and multi-purpose house of Bende Local Government Area headquarters were touched.

The police spokesman further disclosed that two vehicles and three motorcycles, including a highlander vehicle belonging to Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Bende Police Station, were burnt down.

The gunmen, who attacked the police station around 11pm were also said to have released all suspects who were detained at the station.

However, heavily armed soldiers arrived in the area to restore normalcy when the attackers had fled.
