President of the National Association of Nigeria Footballers (NANF), Harrison Jalla, has been granted bail, three days after he was arrested by the Police.

Jalla was arrested in Lagos State by the Police based on a petition filed by President of the Nigeria Football Federation and FIFA Council member, Amaju Pinnick, alleging that Jalla defamed his character in several publications.

Jalla was first taken to a Police Station at Ikeja in Lagos before he was transferred yesterday to Warri Area Command in Delta State.

THISDAY monitored the developments from morning till 3pmand reports that the petitioner, Pinnick, did not show up at the Area Command in Warri.

However, the Police granted Jalla bail after taking his statement.

Jalla confirmed his release to reporters that visited the police area command, stressing that “I have been released on bail. I am no longer in the custody of the Police.

“I have been under the custody of the Police for the past three days. Amaju Pinnick alleged that I defamed his character. I see that as a purely civil matter. But they brought me here all the way from Lagos. I have been in their custody for the past three days. But I am now on bail and I thank God for that.

Jalla promised to seek redress for the infringement on his fundamental human right.

“They held me beyond the constitutional provisions for detention. It’s more than 24 hours. So, I must definitely seek redress. I will like to leave it at that point because we are still at the vicinity of the Police,” concludes the Jalla.
