The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested 54 suspected cultists in separate operations in three local government areas of the state.

Equally, the police command has also arrested a secondary school student, one David Okon, for allegedly stabbing to death a fellow student, Solomon Bassey, at West Itam Secondary School in Itu Local Government Area of the state.

A statement issued by the state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr Odiko Macdon, yesterday said the death of Bassey was as a result of rival cult clash between SS 2 and SS3 students in the school.

The police said 31 of the suspected cultists were arrested in Ibesikpo Asutan local council, 16 in Oruk Anam council and seven in Etinan council.

Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Andrew Amienghene, has decried the level of moral decadence in some schools and society urging parents to inculcate family values on their children.

He called for increased parental care and guide on children.

Amienghene said the proscription order of the state government on secret cults would be enforced to the latter in the state.

Warning those involved in cultism in the State to renounce their membership, he advised members of the public to go about their lawful businesses and give timely information to police and other security agencies to curb the menace.
