The Yobe Governor, Alhaji Mai-Mala Buni, has described the death of the first civilian governor of Borno State, Alhaji Mohammed Goni, as a huge loss to both Borno and Yobe States.

Goni, who died after a brief illness on Wednesday, was the governor old Borno State (present Borno and Yobe States) between October 1979 and October 1983.

A statement by the spokesman to the Yobe governor, Mallam Mamman Mohammed, read: “His Excellency Yobe State Governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, has condoled with the government and people of Borno State over the death of the former governor of the old Borno State, Alhaji Mohammed Goni.

“Governor Buni noted that the death of the Second Republic governor was a huge loss especially to the people of Borno and Yobe States.”

The governor described the death of the former governor as an exit of a great democrat who believed in the tenets of democracy and service to the people.

He lamented that Goni’s death has created a vacuum and prayed that almighty Allah grants him eternal rest in Aljannatur Firdaus.

He equally prayed that God grant the family, government and people of the state the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
