Uneasy Calm in Kano as Ganduje Set to Announce New Emir

The governor of Kano, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, is set to announce the appointment of a new emir, following the removal of Emir Muhammad Sanusi ll on Monday.

An impeccable source in the Government House hinted that the governor, who is currently presiding over an emergency Executive Council Meeting, will announce the new emir anytime soon.

Although it could not be confirmed, speculations are rife that the governor will announce Emir of Bichi, Aminu Ado Bayero, to replace Sanusi, while the emir of Bichi may be replaced by Galadima of Kano, Alhaji Abbas Sanusi.

Meanwhile, uneasy calm has envoloped Kano as the news of the removal of the emir spread across the city.

A combined team of security operatives has been deployed along the road leading to the palace while there are reports that the the dethroned emir has been placed under hourse arrest. as a detachment of heavily armed security men barricaded the emir’s palace.

Security has also been beefed up at the Government House and the Kano State House of Assembly where there was a free-for-all fight earlier on Monday over the ongoing investigation of petitions against Sanusi.

Sanusi, a former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, who became Emir of Kano after the death of Emir Ado Bayero, was dethroned Monday by the state government.
