The Edo State Government has commenced a two-week training programme for the first batch of the 2,500 successful candidates for the Public Safety Works Volunteer Scheme (PUWOV) drawn from the 18 Local Government Areas of the State.
The Coordinator of PUWOV, Edo State, Mukhtar Yusuf-Osagie, said aside the physical training, the candidates will undergo trainings by seasoned experts on fundamental human rights, Public Relations, fire-fighting, information handling, relationship with the police, the society, and civil responsibilities, among others.
He noted that while the 1,000 successful PUWOV members, which make up the first batch begin their trainings immediately, the second batch of 1,500 will subsequently follow at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Orientation Camp in Okada, Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State.
The Coordinator said, “The training exercise of 2,500 successful PUWOV shortlisted persons from various wards and Local Government Areas of Edo State has commenced. This is the first batch of 1,000 PUWOV trainees, while the second batch, which comprises 1,500 persons, will start their own training immediately this first batch ends.
“Men of the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Police Force, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) and other security agencies are on ground to handle the training and secure the areas to ensure a successful training while it lasts.”
Some of the newly recruited PUWOV members, who spoke with journalists at the training camp, expressed gratitude to the Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki for restoring their lost hope and giving them the opportunity to contribute their quota to the development of the society.
They, however, promised to utilize the great opportunity to improve themselves and their immediate communities.
