Expose Criminals’ Hideouts, Katsina Emirate Tells Residents

As kidnapping and banditry intensified in Katsina State, the state Emirate Council has urged residents of the state to expose criminals’ hideouts and activities with a view to curbing criminal activities in the state.

This was even as the council said it has constituted development associations across the 34 local government areas (LGAs) of the state to checkmate the menace.

The Chairman, Katsina State Council of Chiefs, Dr. Abdulmumini Kabir Usman, stated this when the council paid courtesy call to Governor Aminu Bello Masari to identify with him on his re-election at Government House.

Usman who is also the Emir of Katsina, disclosed that the rate of kidnapping and armed robbery was alarming, hence the formation of associations that comprise of at least 20 different groups of people selected from ward, village and district levels in each local government area in the state.

He added that the associations in synergy with security personnel and other stakeholders would report any unlawful act to the head office under the Katsina or Daura Emirate Council.

While admonishing the state government to assist the associations with logistics for smooth running of their activities, the paramount ruler said no meaningful development could be achieved in an atmosphere of rancor or acrimony.

Masari while responding, said the traditional system of leadership is the best way of dealing with current social problems in the society.

He said the task before the government is to ensure sustainability of the structure of traditional institutions for effective security system in the state, adding that his administration would sustain it current war against criminality.

“I call on all and sundry to continue to join hands with security agents to safeguard people lives and property,” Masari said.
