Unknown gunmen have attacked Kawaye settlement in Bagega village of Anka Local Government Area (LGA) of Zamfara State, killing 14 persons and abducting 40 others.
The attack, THISDAY learnt, occurred on Wednesday evening.
It was gathered that during the attack, several cars, houses and shops were burnt to ashes with unspecified number of animals and foodstuffs carted away by the bandits.
Spokesman of Operation Sharar Daji, Major Clement Abiade, confirmed the incident but did not specify the number of persons killed.
He said the army was investigating and compiling the damage.
Abiade disclosed that the troops attached to Operation Sharar Daji were immediately deployed to the area and succeeded in killing five of the bandits.
The president had Wednesday vowed to deal with those responsible for the mindless killings in Sokoto and Kaduna States.
