Film, music and theatre is about to come together for Africa’s largest performance festival, Lagos Fringe Festival 2018 and Nigerians are looking forward to the event with great excitement.
A pivotal aspect of the activities lined up for the theatre at Lagos Fringe is looking exciting, thrilling and completely engaging as the organisers of the festival led by Kenneth Uphopho have unveiled a line-up of several captivating and fascinating plays expected to showcase.
The plays include Claustro, Cliché, Save Our Song & That Scoundrel Suberu, L’Otor The Devils Pilgrimage, Save Our Song, Light Up Your World – For Kids, Naija Saga, HOME, Who Is Mad, Bad Women, CORA Book & Art Fair, Music Concert, Nollywood Scoundrels, A Parliament Of Vulture, Defiance, Drooping Palm, Goodnight Drama, Rooliug, Under The Rainbow, Esther’s Revenge, Colour Me Pink, That Scoundrel Suberu, Cloned Lives, August Meeting, HELP!!! and Bridezilla.
Showcasing at the various strands of venues of the festival include Terrakulture, Main Lagos Fringe Stage, Kongi’s Harvest Gallery, Freedom Park, British Council, The Ramp, British Council, Main stage & Amphitheatre, these plays will serve to entertain attendees and give them memorable theatre experiences.
Speaking on the array of plays available for the viewing pleasure of attendees, Uphopho said the Lagos Fringe will be showcasing the best and brightest of talents Lagos has to offer during a week-long adventure of everything art and culture, adding, “we also made sure that we added a lot of exciting activities for kids so the whole family can partake of the festivities”.
Lagos Fringe was inspired by the desire to provide a platform for network, showcase, empowerment and engagement for arts makers, to develop the connection to audiences and international guests/promoters.
Consequently, the quintessential performing arts festival has launched a competition for artists with the grand festival billed to take place from Sunday, November 11 till Sunday, November 18, 2018 in Lagos.
Therefore, organisers have opened entries for visual artists to enter the competition as part of this year’s festival.
Winners of the competition will be carefully selected and will feature at the Africa’s largest performing arts festival taking place from Sunday, November 11 till Sunday, November 18, 2018 in Lagos, across various venues, in collaboration with the Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF).
The 20 winners of this competition will be offered a free exhibition space to showcase their artworks and will further enter a long-term relationship with the festival and partners.
The competition is open to painters, sculptors, illustrators, etc who are in the business of drawing, painting, sculpting, printmaking, design, crafts, photography, video, filmmaking and architecture.
To enter, the artists are expected to make a 59-second video showcasing their art, sharing same on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram using #LagosFringe #MyLifeMyArt and tagging @lagosfringe on social media.
This competition closes on Friday, November 9. The Lagos Fringe strands is an open-access showcase for performers, exhibitors, vendors and production companies to present their work without restriction to style such as Theatre, Children’s theatre, Dance, Film, Spoken word, Comedy, Puppetry, Cabaret, Photography, Face Painting, Martial Arts Display, Music and Interdisciplinary arts etc.
