The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) and a governorship aspirant in Bayelsa, Keniebi Okoko, at the weekend called for more relief materials from public-spirited Nigerians for persons displaced by the ravaging flood in the country.

Specifically, Executive Secretary of NCDMB, Mr Simbi Wabote, urged oil firms operating in the Niger Delta area to assist in ameliorating the sufferings of the people affected by the disaster.

Wabote made the appeal when he led management of the board to donate relief materials at the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp in Igbogene area of Yenagoa and Ammasomma, Southern Ijaw on the state.

During the event, each of the three locations visited by the NCDMB received two trucks load of mattresses, food items, beddings, disinfectants and other sundry items.

Wabote noted that natural disasters often challenge the society to care for the vulnerable people as humanitarian gesture was a universal phenomenon.

“We are concerned about the impact of the ongoing flood on the people, and as a socially responsible agency of government, we are here to assist with these items; we appeal that the materials be distributed to the people who really need them.

“The number of people impacted from what we have seen is so much, and we felt the need to compliment the efforts of Bayelsa State Government,” Wabote said.
