The Association of Waste Managers of Nigeria (AWAM), Lagos Chapter has alleged that the Lagos State Government is yet to provide bankable agreement that will enable them to make further necessary investment.
The Vice Chairman of the Association of Waste Managers of Nigeria (AWAM), Lagos Chapter, Mr. David Oriyomi stated this when he addressed journalists on “the current position of waste management in the State.”
According to the association, “The government has continued to pay lip service to the issue of dumpsites which remains a major bottleneck to effective waste evacuation. Visionscape continues to monopolise the State assets such as the Transfer Loading Stations.
“Visionscape and its agents continue to encroach in areas being serviced by the PSP claiming to offer a free service which they don’t have the capacity to render.
“The net effect of all these is that some Operators have being forced to shut down their businesses while those of us that are still operating are barely surviving as we continue to service our clients under such harsh and hostile conditions. Despite all these we continue to make appeals to His Excellency Mr. Akinwumi Ambode.
“This injustice should not be allowed to continue, the health and wellbeing of Residents of Lagos must be paramount to all. It was therefore with great hope that we welcome the emergence of new Governorship aspirants, particularly for Mr. Babajide Olushola Sanwo-Olu who has promised to run a participative Government and resolve the protracted waste crisis facing crisis our beloved State. For this reason, we the Association of Waste Managers of Nigeria have decided to align ourselves with Mr. Babajide Olushola Sanwo-Oluand pledge our full support to Him in the forthcoming elections. This decision was taken in the best interest of the environment.”
