Flood: Niger Bars Heavy Duty Trucks from Rafingora Road

Following the flooding of the Rafingora road as a result of torrential rains, the Niger State Government has barred heavy duty vehicles from plying the route.
The Rafingora road in Kontagora Local Government links Niger State with neighbouring Kebbi State.
The state government, in a statement in Minna Tuesday signed by the Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Danjuma Salau, warned motorists to avoid the road as much as possible.
“All heavy trucks are banned from passing through this route to avoid further deterioration of the road. They are therefore advised to re route their movements from Mokwa to Makera to Tegina to Kontagora,” the statement said.
Salau disclosed that the state government was “working frantically to provide a diversion to enable motorists to ply the road”.

Two weeks ago, torrential rains also washed off one the bridges linking Bida and Minna forcing the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) in the state to announce the diversion of traffic to other routes.

Also recently, the State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) announced that 19 out of the 25 local governments in the state had witnessed one form of flooding or the other.
