Ref Ricci to Handle Nigeria/Croatia Duel

Sandro Meira Ricci, a Brazilian civil servant has been assigned to handle the Group D encounter of Nigeria with Croatia in Kaliningrad tomorrow.

He will be assisted by compatriots, Emerson De Carvalho and Mercelo Van Gasse. Ricci entered record books as the first referee in the world to validate a goal by means of the newly introduced goal line technology.

That happened on June 15, 2014 during his debut World Cup refereeing as he handled the France-Honduras match.

A day after the fourth anniversary of the record-setting occasion, he has been assigned the Group D Russia 2018 match.

His first major assignment was in the 2014 World Cup qualifying series when he officiated the Ecuador-Paraguay match in 2013.
