Ex-Kano Milad, Sani Bello’s Fellow Feeling

The late reggae music legend,  Bob Marley,  in one of his deathless lyrics, said, “The greatness of a man is not in how much wealth he acquires, but in his integrity and his ability to affect those around him positively.”
Evidence abounds that Col.Sani Bello,  a former military  governor of  Kano State, lives his life by the wise saying or how else does one explain the fact that the former milad, through his Sani Bello Foundation, offered free surgery to no fewer than 300 people in Kontagora Local Government Area of Niger State last week?   It was gathered that the beneficiaries,  who included men, women, youths and children, underwent surgeries for various medical issues,  ranging from appendicitis, fibroid, lumps, hernia, thyroid, goitre, while some others were treated for hypertension. The three-day outreach programme, which was in collaboration with the Graceland Health Development Foundatio, held at the General Hospital Kontagora.
Speaking on the development, Vice Chairman of the Foundation, Usman Sani Bello, confirmed that the programme  was organised to impact the lives of the people in the  community positively  and bring them relief from the ailments they are suffering from.
Bello also stressed that the foundation would continue to work towards relieving the burdens of the people who might  not be able to do it by themselves, adding that  “Our motive is to help those in need and bring smile to the faces of the poor and the needy. There is no cost to human life; that is why we work at changing the lives of people and bringing a smile to their faces. It is really a priceless gift,” he said.
He further revealed  that though the target was 300, more than 500 people turned out for the surgery, thereby  posing  a challenge for the foundation as they could not attend to all. He,  however,  said the organisers   attended to the major and emergency cases first.
A total of 17 surgeons were said to have attended to the patients during exercise, which was the second edition of the outreach programme organised by the foundation.
