Human Trafficking has been a major subject in the global media and it is inspiring to see young Nigerians making their mark to fight against this heinous crime.
On Monday the 30th of April 2018, Dr May Ikeora who is an ex-beauty queen, now an academic /entrepreneur/author made her mark through the Launch of her book entitled “Bilateral Cooperation and Human Trafficking: Eradicating Modern Slavery between the United Kingdom and Nigeriaâ€.Â
The book presentation was hosted by the British Deputy High Commission through a reception to foster UK/Nigeria Cooperation to tackle Human Trafficking. The book was supported by Nigerian Maritime Administration & Safety Agency (NIMASA), Keystone bank, Heritage Bank, First Bank, Fidelity Bank, Edilawani Associates, Eduplat and the Edo State Government to enable the dissemination of the book. The book was published by a foremost academic Publisher based in New York, Palgrave Macmillan (over 170years of academic publishing)Â
The event was well attended by key stakeholders including NAPTIP, DfiD, Lawyers, Judges, Unilever, Bank MDs, Governors, Commissioners, British National Crime Agency, NGOs and Rep from the Oba’s Palace. The key message of the book which was shared by Dr Alex Otti, the Executive Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki and the author was to emphasise the need for stakeholders from all sectors to work together in making modern slavery history in Nigeria.
Dr May Ikeora is also a member of the Edo State Anti-Trafficking Task Force.
