Okowa to Perform Groundbreaking of Nigeria’s 1st Sports Varsity

Prospects for effective takeoff of administrative and academic activities in the proposed premier sports university in Nigeria have brightened as all is set for the groundbreaking ceremony of Stars University, in Idumuje-Ugboko in Aniocha North Local Government area of Delta State.

The ceremony is expected to be performed by Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, today.

A statement by a former member of the House of Representatives, Prince Ned Nwoko in Idumuje-Ugboko, said that the groundbreaking ceremony will “signal the formal construction work on the takeoff site with the blocks for administration, classrooms and hall of residence” of the proposed STARS University.

“The commencement of the project is coming on the heels of the approval granted to the premier university of sports in the sub-Saharan Africa by the National Universities Commission (NUC), on November 3, 2017.

“The approval has given us the impetus to commence the development of the institution immediately with the aim of starting full academic and administrative operations in the 2018-2019 session.”

Aside the state governor who is the Chief Host, Capt. Hosa Okunbo, Chief Nwaukoni, the Iyase of Ogwashi-Uku are among the other dignitaries expected at the event.
