Ekweremadu: Asset Forfeiture Case is APC’s Attempt to Intimidate Me

By Benjamin Nworie in Abakaliki

Deputy Senate President, Dr. Ike Ekweremadu, yesterday alleged that the presidential committee headed by Okoi Obla to recover his assets is an attempt by the All Progressives Congress(APC) to intimidate him.

Ekweremadu spoke in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital during the South-east Peoples Democratic

Party (PDP) zonal meeting which took place at the Government House.

He accused the ruling the APC of using intimidation and

blackmail against the opposition members of the PDP to retain power in 2019.

He said what he and other members of the PDP are currently passing through in the nation was unfortunate and embarrassing, adding that he would not succumb to intimidation.

The Deputy Senate President said: “As my people,  I owe you the fact to tell you the truth  which is that I committed no offence. Because the matter is already in court I don’t intend to go into details but let me just add that is only the politics of 2019.

“What we find out in 2019 is that the PDP will be the David that will save Nigeria from the hands of goliath and no amount of intimidation or blackmail will stop it. The APC government believed that it can capture power by intimidation and blackmail and it has never happened and it will never happen.

“I want to state clearly that what we are witnessing is unfortunate and embarrassment to us as a country a situation where a government in

power have tried to use established anti corruption agencies to harass and intimidate opposition. What we have found out over two weeks is that bunch of APC lawyers  assembled themselves and called themselves panel for the recovery of government properties led by a man called himself Okoi Obla.

“As a lawyer, I am sure that common sense will tell you that you can

never be a judge in your own case. There is no way cats will assemble

themselves and say they are going to investigate rats because rat will never have any justice. Obla and his co travellers think we are all very stupid.

There is no  way Nigeria or international government will watch a panel to track PDP, it will never happen.  So I want to appeal that we continue to pray for this country because the days ahead are very

worrisome but by the grace of God we will overcome,” he said.
