Baseballer, Other Sports Trailblazers on CNN African Voices

The first African-born baseball player to feature in the American Major Baseball League, Gift Ngoepe , will be a major focus of this week’s episode of CNN African Voices.

The programme which is broadcast on CNN at 9.30 a.m. on Friday and repeated at 3.30 a.m. and 1.30 p.m. on Saturday and 11.30 a.m and 6.30 p.m. on Sunday is sponsored by African telecoms service provider, Globacom. Further repeats of the show will come up at 10.30 a.m. on Monday and 4.30 a.m. on Tuesday.

This next episode of the show is all about wave-making, young history-makers who will reveal to viewers the stuff great African athletes are made of, how they break records and overcome daunting obstacles.

In this week’s programme, the 28-year-old South African professional, Gift Ngoepe, who is second baseman for the Toronto Blue Jays throws light on his career experience, motivation and what it feels like to be number 1 in his field.

Also on the show is Moroccan adventurer and environmentalist, Saad Abid. He is a successful surfer whose love for the outdoors led him to develop a passion to protect the environment, and he has since been raising his voice to speak for a cleaner, greener environment. Viewers need to hear his story as told on CNN African Voices.

The third athlete on the show is South African trail runner, Ryan Nicholas “Hedgie” Sanders, who is another record breaker.

He is known as the first competitor to win all the four desert races, each a 6/7 day, 250 kilometer self-supported footrace through the Atacama Desert in Chile, the Gobi Desert in China, the Sahara Desert in Egypt and lastly the Antartica in the South Pole.
