The federal government has again urged the non-teaching staff of the Nigeria’s tertiary institutions to call off their prolonged strike.
The Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU), National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) operating under the acronym of the Joint Action Committee agreed this evening to summon a meeting tomorrow, Wednesday, March 7, 2018 to brief their members with a view to calling off their strike.
“This is following a successful conciliation meeting at the instance of the Hon. Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige.â€
The Director of Press at the Ministry, Mr. Samuel Olowookere, in a statement yesterday, said the “meeting which had the leadership of the unions and the officials of the Federal Ministry of Education in attendance deliberated exhaustively on all the outstanding issues raised by the unions.â€
Olowookere said Ngige while rounding off the meeting, recounted all the steps already taken by the current administration to permanently resolve all outstanding matters that disrupt academic activities in the universities as well as the measures being taken at present to settle the trade dispute with the Joint Action Committee.
The minister was also said to have appealed to them to call off the strike.
