Herdsmen Invade Farm Land, Kill One, Carted Away 99 Cows in Kogi

Some suspected herdsmen have invaded the farmland of late Chief Silas Daniyan, SBD Farms Limited in Mopa, killing one person and carted away 99 cows from the farm.

Already, palpable fears have gripped the residents of Mopa, Mopo-Amoro Local Government Area of Kogi State, following the alleged invasion of the area by Fulani herdsmen.

THISDAY reliably gathered that the incident occurred around 7pm on Tuesday night when one of his brothers discovered that the man who was grazing the cow, Mallam Laisi Musa, has been attacked by the herdsmen and was in a critical condition.

The sources confirmed that the victim had taken the cows to graze but was ambushed along the way and dealt machete cuts by the attackers, who carted away 99 cows.

He is said to have been taken to Rehoboth Clinic and Maternity, Mopa, where doctors are battling to save his live. According to a resident of the area, Mr. Sola Daramola, unknown Fulani herdsmen moved into the area in large numbers, heavily armed and have been causing havoc in the area. He said, “Yesterday which is on Tuesday, they attacked Laid Musa, who went on normal daily work, taking those cows for pasture within the farm. “They were to return at about 6pm, unfortunately he did not return. So, they were searching for him, on the instruction of his elder brother, by going through where they normally take their cows to pasture and met him seriously macheted.

“His fate is in the hands of God”. Another resident of Mopa, Monday Elere, added, “We learnt they are new (attackers) in that environment. The name of the boy that was attacked is Musa. He is working with the farm as one of the cattle rearers”. He said the case was reported at the Mopa police divisional office, where,”the DPO promised to take it up with the area command office. However, when THISDAY called on the Police Public Relation officer of the Kogi State Police Command. Mr. William Ayah, he said the command was yet to be briefed about the incident by the Division’s Police Officer in Mopa.
