Nigerian contingent savoured the historic moment that characterised the opening ceremony of the 2018 Winter Olympics in
Pyeongchang, South Korea.
Ngozi Onwumere was Nigeria’s flag bearer as the all-female team, accompanied by the Chef de Mission, Gbenga Elegbeleye, marched onto the venue behind Greece and Ghana.
South Africa, Madagascar, Morocco, Eritrea, Kenya and Togo are the other African nations participating.
Over 6,000 athletes from 92 countries are attending the Games.
The Nigerian ladies were clad in a white overall apparels with green lining and matched with green head gears.
The Korean Cultural Center, Abuja organized a viewing ceremony for the Nigerian public.Director of the centre, Han Sungrae, expressed gladness that the opening ceremony was successful in spite of tension earlier in the Korean Peninsula.
“I hope that the Nigerian people enjoy the Pyeonchang Olympics along Team Nigeria, ” Han said.
Teams from North and South Korea team entered the arena under the unification flag, a blue silhouette of the peninsula and outlying islands. Athletes from both nations took selfies with each other as they waited to walk into the heart of the stadium.
As the Koreans emerged, they were greeted to an ovation from 35,000 cheering spectators.
