Technology Will Enhance Last-mile Delivery Services, Says NIPOST Boss Â

The Postmaster General of the federation and Chief Executive Officer of Nigeria Postal Service (NIPOST), Adebisi Adegbuyi, has assured Nigerians of better and faster last-mile delivery services in the Nigerian postal system. He said that the feat will be achieved through latest technology that would be made available to all NIPOST staff.
Adegbuyi, who gave the assurance while unveiling 95 new motorcycles for last-mile delivery services for Lagos zone at the General Post Office, Ikeja at the weekend, said the motorcycles would enhance last-mile delivery services and also boost customer satisfaction.
According to the Postmaster General, “We are leveraging on technology to create revenue streams for NIPOST. We have entered into partnerships with different specialised bodies to drive these initiatives. One of the initiatives is the robust digital addressing system for NIPOST that will enhance easy and faster mail delivery, especially the last-mile delivery.
“If we do not have a robust digital addressing system, it could hamper our dream for last-mile delivery system. It will help to identify customer location easily and make last-mile delivery system a lot more easier. The motorcycles that have just been launched is another way to enhance last-mile delivery.”
Nigeria has the largest destination for financial remittances in Africa, recording between $20- $23 billion in financial remittances yearly by Nigerians in diaspora. We want to use the post to reach out to more Nigerians and reduce poverty. All these will generate employment opportunities for our youths, and the motorcycles will go a long way in enhancing delivery services, Adeguyi added.
He disclosed that President Muhammadu Buhari would soon launch the digital addressing system and the electronic money order that would further help NIPOST in servicing its customers better.
In his remarks, the Chief Operating Officer of NIPOST, Yahaya Rufai said the last-mile delivery remained one of the most important aspects of NIPOST mail delivery value chain, hence much attention is given to it, adding that the partnership with Global Mercantile and Logistics Limited, is a demonstration of NIPOST desire to ensure excellence in service delivery.
According to Rufai, the collaboration demands that Global Mercantile enhances NIPOST last-mile delivery all over the federation, starting with Lagos zone where there is preponderance of mail service. Consequently, it will provide service to cover 16 regions of EMS/Parcel Nigeria in Lagos at the first instance, as well as cover 12 postal hubs for conventional mail in Lagos with 47 dispatch riders.
