2019: PRP Reviews Party Constitution, Says Party Ready for Merger

As political activities continue to unfold ahead of the 2019 elections, the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has said it has reviewed basic documents of the party in order to reposition it to play a more prominent role in the Nigerian political space starting from 2019.

The party also said as a pan Nigerian organisation which is committed to the Nigeria’s unity that it is ready to go into alliances with any political party or groups.

The Chairman of the Holistic Review Committee, Mallam Lawal Batagarawa, while submitting the report to the Chairman of the party, Alhaji Balarabe Musa, said the report was done by a 40 member committee to review the basic documents of the PRP so that the party could be reposition for the contestations of the 2019 elections and subsequent election.

According to him, “We have looked at the constitution of the party, we have looked at the programmes of the party and also looked at the manifesto of the party, so these are the three basic documents that we have looked at and reviewed them and make the appropriate recommendations for them.”

When asked how prepare the party is going to 2019 elections, Batagarawa noted that, “these are all the processes of getting prepared and that is why we are reviewing our basic documents and going through the convention to approve some of the recommendations that are made here so that the party will be much stronger in terms of its ideological stand, in terms of the personnel it will placed to stand for elections. We are starting a complete process leading up to the election of improving the party both in terms of this basic document and in terms of its personnel and its candidates.”

He added that as a political party that the party would present candidates for elections, without any exception, stressing that the party is committed to presenting candidates for elections at the national, state and local government levels.

Asked if the party is considering merger, Batagarawa said: “PRP from its deepest root which started during the first republic as NEPU, we have always gone into alliance depending on the circumstances and the situation we find the country in. Because we are national party which is totally committed to the Nigeria’s unity and the Nigeria’s unity is always a process, it is not a one off thing…, we are prepared to go into alliances with other political parties or groups who have interest in contesting election on the bases of the Nigerian law and constitution.”

He assured that, “It is the same PRP with the same believes, with the same commitments, with the same ideology. our major commitment is service to the people, service to our country on the basis of a strong unified Nigeria. National unity is extremely important, security for lives and property is extremely important, and education is extremely important. We are committed to providing our people, and eradicating illiteracy.”
