As Edo State joins the rest of the world to mark the International Migration Day, the state Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has charged youths in the state to support government efforts, policies and programmes to end illegal migration.

Obaseki who spoke at a press conference to mark the 2017 International Migration Day, insisted that the fight against human trafficking can not be won without synergy with the youths.

Represented by his newly appointed Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Human Trafficking and Illegal Migration, Solomon Okoduwa, the governor reiterated his administration’s readiness to solving the problem of illegal migration by the approval N100 million worth of farm seedlings as grants and 150 hectares of farm land for the first batch of trained returnees.

“The current openness of my administration is a concrete covenants of partnership with international NGOs and civil society organisations, religious institutions and all stakeholders in this consolidated fight against illegal migration.”

He added that government’s sincerity in ensuring the arrest and prosecution of human trafficker in Edo State will serve as deterrent to those who see it as a business venture.

“It is imperative for the Edo youths to note that journeying to other country’s hinterland in search of greener pasture has become needless as always because those countries are currently faced with their own challenges while the transit points have become a place for slavery as well as human parts market
