NGO Rewards Humanitarian Acts, Seeks Societal Growth

Recognising that giving, showing love, and caring for one another are vital ingredients of creating a meaningful society, a non-government organisation, Live Abundantly Empowerment Initiative, (LAEI), has honoured individuals who have committed themselves to humanitarianism especially on women and children.

The recognition which was an award was to further appreciate and motivate acts that identify with the objectives of LAIE to include violence against women and children, education of children marginalised by poverty and physiological differences and the empowerment of women through education.

Speaking at the award presentation ceremony which was held at Muson Centre in Lagos, Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, praised the organisation for championing the cause of women and children especially by raising awareness and educating them on their rights.

Represented by the permanent secretary, office of the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Yetunde Odejayi, the governor reiterated the state’s commitment to creating space for women and children as well as protecting them against all forms of abuses and actions that could inhibit their progress.

Also Speaking, the First Lady of Oyo State, Mrs. Florence Ajimobi, who was also presented with Founder’s Award, encouraged victims of violence to speak out in any case and desist from the culture of violence.

In her address, Founder of the Organisation, Dr. Ama Onyerinma, pointed out that women and children play a vital role in the development of communities, states and the country as a whole and as such must be duly catered for.

She said that was why the NGO was set up basically to arise to the cause of women and children in all ramifications.

“Empowering women to know their rights and to participate in the economic development of themselves, family and community is essential for economic progress and a sense of worthiness. Nobody wants to be denied access to education or employment due to physiological differences or socio-economic circumstances. We all have a right to be treated with dignity and respect and to feel secure in the society as prescribed by the law”. She added that the award gesture was a way of acknowledging and celebrating those who have impacted lives of women and the girl child.

Others on the award list included Mr. Lanre Olusola who bagged  the Change Advocate Award, CP Fatai Owoseni – Safety and Security Advocate Award and  Mrs. Lola Are-Adegbite  who was presented with the Education Advocate Award.
