The Chairman of Innoson Motor Vehicle Manufacturing Company (IVM), Nnewi, Anambra State, Mr. Innocent Chukwuma, has said he set up the car manufacturing company not to make profit but to prove that Nigerians are capable of making their own brand.

Chukwuma stated this during a ceremony to unveiled four new brands of his company’s vehicles — IVM G80, IVM 40, IVM 20 and IVM Granitein, which were launched on Monday.

Chukwuma recalled how he was discouraged by a few of his trusted friends at the time he was planning to set up the plant, saying that his friends based their argument on grounds that the existing plants in the country had been in comatose and that government and agencies usually did not patronise local industries.

He noted that eight years later, the story had changed and sceptics were proved wrong as IVM had now become an established brand name in motor manufacturing.

The IVM boss said he decided to introduce the new products, which were all choices cars, to take care of high class Nigerians, who want to drive, made in Nigeria vehicles.

He solicited more patronage and partnership from Nigerians, noting that he was not out to make money but to prove that Nigeria were capable of producing their own vehicle

The ceremony was attended by top government functionaries, clergymen, traditional rulers among others.
