Nero Asibelua Foundation (NAF) recently donated educational materials to The Cottage of Hope Institute within the Kirikiri Maximum Security Prison in Lagos.
The donated materials, which included computer printers and photocopiers, writing materials, devotional materials, tables and chairs, were meant to support the effective rehabilitation of the inmates.
The foundation’s chairman, Nero Asibelua, said: “We need to rehabilitate people in our prisons so they can come out as better Nigerians,†adding “I am particularly moved by the initiative of the prison authorities in the Kirikiri Maximum Prison for having setup such a laudable programme that accepted our humble support.
“May Almighty God keep them strong and enable them to transform these lives assigned to them for good.â€
In her own address, Mrs. Vivian Asibelua said, “the foundation is simply supporting the ongoing reformatory structure already in place, making a difference to the lives of inmates and ultimately when released and become free, in the larger society. This gesture symbolises our need as citizens to rehabilitate our thought-process towards nation-building.â€
She concluded with an appeal to the populace to become involved in humanitarian activities, urging the public to be humane at all times.
The Cottage of Hope Institute is being managed by the inmates, lawyers, bankers and academics, who are serving their prison terms.
It runs both primary and secondary schools’ curricula, which prepare the inmates for the School Certificate Examinations.
Expressing his gratitude for the donations, DCP Seye Oduntan, said: “We appreciate this donation and we believe the materials will go a long way to enable effective educational delivery to the inmates.â€
