A non-governmental organisation in Anambra Transformation Ambassadors (ATA) is claiming that a total of 1.3million eligible voters in Anambra State have signed up, for the re-election of Anambra State governor, Chief Willie Obiano, through its #BringBackWillie 2017 project.
The group said the project has been in Anambra for months, and through its coordinators in the 326 electoral wards in the state, over 1.3million people have signed for the governor to be returned for a second term.
The state coordinator of the group, Dr Chinedu Enemuo, who briefed journalists yesterday, said the group has through its wards, local government, zonal and state coordinators been going to the hinterlands of the state to sensitise the people on the need to re-elect the governor.
He said part of the sensitisation was to convince the people on the need to vote for the governor, and also get them to sign consent forms, and that the major criteria for letting one sign the form was the ownership of a valid voters’ card.
“The people are in support of the re-election of the governor, and we have been working hard to convince them. Don’t forget that INEC recently released the total number of people that will be voting in this election, saying it’s about two million.
“So far, we already have 1,3024 eligible voters, with their PVCs, who have signed up to vote Obiano. What that tells you is that Obiano already has more than half of the entire votes for the election.â€
Enemuo said the group would be send 326 ward coordinators out for the election, and additional 4,608 polling unit coordinators to man the various polling units in the state, and would ensure that results are transmitted immediately on the internet to forestall rigging.
Mr Francis Nwosu, the group’s zonal coordinator for Anambra South said his experience in the field trying to convince people to sign up for Obiano’s re-election has shown that the governor is greatly loved by his people.
He also added that the recent allegation of Obiano over-spending government funds for his re-election campaign was false as his experience also revealed that many well meaning people were making donations to support the governor’s re-election.
