INEC: Two Million Voters to Participate in Anambra Governorship Poll

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) wednesday disclosed that a total of 2,158,171 voters would participate in the Anambra State governorship election which comes up on November 18.

The Director, Information Communication Technology department of INEC, Mrs. Bimbo Oladunjoye, said the number represents those who registered and collected their Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs).
Oladunjoye disclosed this at the publication and presentation of the official Register of Voters (RV) to political parties’ candidates in Awka.

She also disclosed that a total of 2,280 voters attempted multiple registration, while a total of 3,628 voters participated in the Continuous Voters Register (CVR) which took place between August 10 and 14, 2017.

Oladunjoye said the publication and presentation of the official register of voters was in line with Section 30 of the Electoral Act 2015 (as amended), which provides that the Register of Voters for an election shall be issued not less than thirty days before such an election.

She added that INEC would take the lives of its ad-hoc staff, voters, local and international observers, international and local journalists on duties very seriously during the elections by ensuring the conduct of a hitch and violence-free election.

In his remarks, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Garba Umar, who was represented by the Assistant Commissioner of Police in the state, Mallam Maiyaiki Baba, assured the electorate of their safety during and after the election.
Umar said the police and other sister agencies would ensure an
enabling environment for free, fair and credible election.
