APC Campaign Council for Anambra Election Runs into Hitch

The All Progressives Congress (APC) may be having some problems constituting its campaign council to lead the way for the party’s bid to win the coveted governorship seat in Anambra State.

THISDAY gathered that following the controversy which trailed the outcome of its governorship primary for Anambra State, some key APC members are not happy with the National Working Committee (NWC) led by Chief John Odigie-Oyegun for recognising Tony Nwoye as the party’s candidate.

According to a party source, the NWC had earlier fixed the inauguration of the campaign committee for last Monday but had later cancelled it without giving any reason.

However, THISDAY learnt from the party source that the inauguration had to put off following the decision of some the key members of the committee not to show up for the event.

He said the boycotting of the campaign committee might not be unconnected with the anger and suspicion over the unsubstantiated allegation that some of the national officers took bribe before the primary.

It was also alleged that these officers got a bribe of about N150 million to skew the outcome of the appeal panel scrutiny of the primary result in favour of one of the contestants.

The source also added that some of the members appointed to serve in the campaign committee said they would not want to identify themselves with the campaign of APC for Anambra State governorship due to the alleged faulty process which led to the emergence of Nwoye as candidate.
