The Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) tuesday clarified that it did not take over the hotels of an Ogun State politician, Senator Buruji Kashamu, as reported tuesday.
It reiterated that the Best Western Hotels in Ikeja and Victoria Island, Lagos, that it took over belong to the Group Managing Director of Suru Worldwide Ventures Nigeria Limited, Mr. Edward Akinlade.
Also, Kashamu’s media office has described as untrue, the media reports that AMCON has taken over some hotels belonging to the lawmaker.
A statement issued by the Media Adviser to Kashamu, Austin Oniyokor, said: “The report is a mere fabrication and a desperate attempt by the senator’s detractors to link him with an issue that does not concern him in any way.
“There is no court order permitting AMCON to take over any of the Senator’s properties. He does not have any hotel in Ikeja and the one in Victoria Island has since been rebranded. It is now BWC Hotels. The hotel is being managed by a team of expatriates and local personnel.
“It should be pointed out that Best Western is an international franchise that can be bought by anyone who can afford the fees. The chain of hotels under the Best Western brand are independently owned and operated.
“Thus, if Best Western Hotel in Ikeja or anywhere has any issues with AMCON, it does not in any way concern Senator Buruji Kashamu. Such hotels have their promoters, directors and shareholders who are separate and distinct individuals.
“We wish to assure all the fans, friends and associates of the Kashamu that there is no cause for alarm. None of his properties is being occupied by AMCON or any agency of government,†the statement added.
