North Central zonal Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Zakari Edde, has congratulated the Nasarawa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for zoning its governorship ticket for the 2019 general election to Nasarawa North senatorial district.
The APC North Central zonal chairman commended the opposition party’s foresight of zoning its governorship ticket to the northern district of the state last Saturday when interacting with some journalists in his country home, Nasarawa Eggon, headquarters of Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area of the state.
“I must say congratulation to my own counterpart, the PDP, that had zoned the governorship ticket to Nasarawa North senatorial district,†he said.
Consequently, Edde stated further that “I am also calling on my party, APC, to follow suit so that people will be happy with it. It is good to do the right thing, and I want to say that my party should follow what the PDP has done.â€
He continued that it was a season of politics, which is democracy in action, and whoever does anything good, he will appreciate him. “It is not my party, but I like what they have done,†he maintained.
Accordingly, the APC chieftain said: “If you talk about how everybody looks at it, whether I like it or not, as a party and at my own personal level, I want the governorship position to be zoned to Nasarawa North senatorial district for some obvious reasons.
“Firstly, we have three senatorial districts in the state,
Keffi zone has taken a shot as Senator Abdullahi Adamu had done eight years. Nasarawa south now is in its twelfth year, and I think it is
only right to be our brother’s keeper for fairness, justice, equity and togetherness as I feel naturally and ordinarily that the seat of governance in the state should be zoned to Nasarawa North senatorial district.â€Â
He was however quick to add that the Nasarawa State Governor, Umaru
Tanko Al-Makura, had said severally at different forum that for equity, it was better for Nasarawa North to have a shot at the position. Therefore, Edde concluded that he was aware that his party, APC, was doing a lot of calculation to that effect but will be surprised if at the end of the day, the governorship ticket is not zoned to the northern senatorial district of the state.
