BETTY AKEREDOLU KICKS OFF BREAST CANCER AWARENESS

  • HOW BREAST CANCER THREATENED THE PEACE OF ONDO GOVERNOR ROTIMI AKEREDOLU

Few women bear the crucible of pain and face down death in a no-holds-barred joust and live to tell their story. But Betty Akeredolu did and she emerged with her life intact.

According to her, the fight against cancer was a struggle she would never forget. But with unprecedented faith and towering resilience, she survived the deadly disease. Beyond the radiance of her visage and robustness of her bod, the healthiness and happiness, not many know that Betty, the wife of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, of Ondo State, is a breast cancer survivor.

She has been through the furnace of the debilitating illness and survived. She said, “I got to know of the disease at the age of 42 because of lack of awareness.

I have been living healthy since then till now. Breast cancer is predominantly woman’s disease, but there is nothing that affects women that does not affect men too.” While describing the fight against cancer as a struggle she would never forget, the Ondo State First Lady said it took a lot of faith and resilience for her to survive the battle. But she doesn’t want other women to go through the excruciating experience of pain and hopelessness that trails the discovery. Hence, she has inaugurated the Breast Cancer Association of Nigeria with which she hopes to educate women about the deadly disease and support victims. According to her, Ondo State is already taking the lead to build a Cancer Treatment Centre.
