Lafarge Africa Plc is set to partner Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) in the research and development of Nigeria’s first concrete mix design manual. Speaking at the launching ceremony recently in Abuja, the Director of Marketing, Lafarge Africa Plc, Mr. Vipul Agrawal commended COREN for ensuring that the country owns a credible concrete mix design manual which will be used for concrete buildings and infrastructure projects in the country.

He called on stakeholder in the manufacturing and concrete infrastructure development in Nigeria to use the manual to improve the quality of concrete in building in durable structures.

On his part, the President of COREN Engr. Kashim Ali, expressed delight over the concrete manual which he noted is built on based on local environmental conditions, raw materials and does not have to depend on reference manuals of other countries. Ali added stated that the manual would be constantly upgraded in line with improvements in building technology.

On his part, the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa Retired Rear Admiral John Jonah said the development was a big plus for engineering practice in Nigeria

The concrete mix design manual provides step by step guidelines on the selection and proportioning of concrete ingredients like cement, sand and aggregates, and then the mixing and placing of concrete. The manual came after exhaustive research and testing with concrete materials in different parts of the country.
