Ortom Call on National Assembly to Handle Restructuring Issues with Care

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State, on Tuesday  called on the National Assembly to take charge of the discussion over the agitations for the restructuring of Nigeria.

He said Nigerians have elected representatives at National Assembly, which cut across all ethnicity and interests.

“This call should not come from people with ulterior motives and a quest to seek popularity as most of them don’t even understand what restructuring is.”

Ortom made this known to journalists at the Benue Government House, Makurdi.
He said it was the National Assembly who  should discuss it and subject it to public hearings to enable Nigerians make their inputs.

 On the issue of the passage of the anti-grazing bill in Benue State, the governor said globally, ranching is the universe best practices to rear animals in the 21st century.
“I have challenged anyone with a superior solution other than ranching but no one has been able to bring up any.

“Any one who intends to rear cattle in the state must resort to ranching and there is no going back.”

He said the law is to protect both farmers and herders, adding that stiff penalties would be meted out to those who rustle cattle.
Ortom also disclosed that President Muhammadu Buhari did not query the signing into law of the open grazing prohibition law.
