FG Begins Renovation of llorin International Airport

Hammed Shittu in Ilorin

The federal government has commenced renovation and upgrading of facilities at the llorin international Airport, Ilorin, which had been abandoned since thunderstorm wrecked havoc on the terminal.

Only the private airlines like Overland, Arik and now Med-View airlines have been operating to the airport on daylight services, as the airport cannot take aircraft in the night due to lack of facilities for night landing and take off.

However, a visit of our correspondent to the airport on Tuesday showed that the airport is now wearing a new look as renovation has started at the terminal.

The renovation, THISDAY learnt, is being executed by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and some of the facilities currently being upgraded include FAAN administrative block, roofing of the entire hajj terminal, the screening centre and installation of overhead reservoir water tanks at various locations at the airport.

Others are installation of street lights at different walkways and other areas of the airport, replacement of worn out air conditioners and other electrical gadgets that would provide better illumination in addition to the construction of new baggage facility and carousel.
